Endcap Muon RoI Cluster trigger efficiencies (in %) for $m_{\Phi}=1000$ GeV scalar benchmark samples. The trigger efficiency is defined as the fraction of LLPs selected by the Muon RoI Cluster trigger as a function of the LLP decay position. The trigger is efficient for hadronic decays of LLPs that occur anywhere from the outer regions of the HCal to the middle station of the MS. These efficiencies are obtained from the subset of events with only a single LLP decay in the muon spectrometer in order to ensure that the result of the trigger is due to a single burst of MS activity. The uncertainties shown are statistical only. The relative differences in efficiencies of the benchmark samples a…
Introduction to General Duality Theory for Multi-Objective Optimization
1992
This is intended as a comprehensive introduction to the duality theory for vector optimization recently developed by C. Malivert and the present author [3]. It refers to arbitrarily given classes of mappings (dual elements) and extends the general duality theory proposed for scalar optimization by E. Balder, S. Kurcyusz and the present author [1] and P. Lindberg.
Induced scalarization in boson stars and scalar gravitational radiation
2012
The dynamical evolution of boson stars in scalar-tensor theories of gravity is considered in the physical (Jordan) frame. We focus on the study of spontaneous and induced scalarization, for which we take as initial data configurations on the well-known S-branch of a single boson star in general relativity. We show that during the scalarization process a strong emission of scalar radiation occurs. The new stable configurations (S-branch) of a single boson star within a particular scalar-tensor theory are also presented.

Numerical 3D modelling of turbulent melt flow in a large CZ system with horizontal DC magnetic field. II. Comparison with measurements
2004
This paper presents a comparison between numerically calculated and measured temperature distributions in turbulent flow in a laboratory model for a CZ large silicon single crystal industrial growth system with a horizontal DC magnetic field. The laboratory model consists of an electrically heated 20” crucible with low-temperature InGaSn melt, a water-cooled metallic crystal model, and a magnet system creating a horizontal magnetic field in the range 0–. Distributions of time-averaged temperature values in various cross sections in the melt are obtained from measurements by a multichannel thermocouple system. A 3D numerical model for the scalar potential induced in the melt by the velocity …

Rethinking Civil Society in Development: Scales and Situated Hegemonies
2016
Ethnic residential segregation is often explained with the claim that ‘immigrants don’t want to integrate—they prefer to stick together with co-ethnics’. By contrast, mixed neighbourhoods are seen as crucial for achieving social cohesion. In line with spatial assimilation theory there is a normative assumption that people interact with those living nearby. From interviews on neighbourhood qualities and locations valued by Oslo residents of Turkish, Somali and Polish backgrounds, we raise questions about the validity of two assumptions: that most immigrants want to live in the same neighbourhoods as co-ethnics; and that they want to live close to co-ethnics because they do not want to integr…
A Meshfree Solver for the MEG Forward Problem
2015
Noninvasive estimation of brain activity via magnetoencephalography (MEG) involves an inverse problem whose solution requires an accurate and fast forward solver. To this end, we propose the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) as a meshfree alternative to the Boundary Element Method (BEM). The solution of the MEG forward problem is obtained, via the Method of Particular Solutions (MPS), by numerically solving a boundary value problem for the electric scalar potential, derived from the quasi-stationary approximation of Maxwell’s equations. The magnetic field is then computed by the Biot-Savart law. Numerical experiments have been carried out in a realistic single-shell head geometry. The p…
Analysis of Optimal High Resolution and Fixed Rate Scalar Quantization
2009
In 2001, Hui and Neuhoff proposed a uniform quantizer with overload for the quantization of scalar signals and derived the asymptotically optimal size of the quantization bins in the high-bitrate limit. The purpose of the present paper is to prove a quantitatively more precise version of this result which, at the same time, is valid for a more general, quite natural class of probability distributions that requires only little regularity and includes, for instance, positive Lipschitz-continuous functions of unit integral.
